Household products – Sonneborn Petroleum Distillates and low viscosity white mineral oils find application in areas such as furniture polishes, rust preventatives, and as inert carriers for insecticide sprays. 

Textile – Sonneborn White Mineral Oils provide excellent lubricity while providing superior oxidative stability, reducing the likelihood of staining.

Printing - Witsol® ink solvents are a line of hydrocarbon solvents used primarily in the ink industry. They are used primarily where stringent emission regulations, misting on the press, and objectionable smoke and odors need to be reduced substantially or eliminated completely.  Multiwax Microcrystalline Waxes also find use in the printing industry as anti-scuff agents. Our Petrolatums are used as a component in cold set printing inks where they improve rub-resistance and help to control ink absorption.

Agriculture – Products:  USP/NF and Technical grade white mineral oils

Sonneborn offers products in the agriculture industry catering primarily to two applications:  Grain dust suppression and animal feed production

When a white mineral oil is applied to grain, the oil inhibits the generation of dust associated with the movement and handling of the grain.  Due to the USP purity of Agrol oil, no taste or odor is imparted to the grain.  Further grain processing, like milling or malting, is not affected.  Nevertheless, this minute amount of white mineral oil is sufficient to prevent dust, and has been found to suppress dust for a period of up to one year. 

In the production of animal feeds, premixing of micronutrients with a suitable carrier is a common method used to ensure proper distribution of nutrients in the final feed.  The carrier’s purpose is to physically accommodate fine-powdered micro ingredients and provide uniform distribution in the process.  White mineral oils act as an adhesive on the carrier’s surface to improve its holding capacity for micro ingredients.  White mineral oil also reduces dust, improves premix integrity and uniformity and reduces electrostatic charges and random loss of micro ingredients.

Adhesives – Products:  Pharmaceutical grade & Technical Grade White Mineral Oils; Microcrystalline waxes

Sonneborn White Mineral Oils, including industry standard Kaydol (with a higher Naphthenic content) and Multiwax Microcrystalline Waxes are used to reduce melt viscosity, economically extend, and plasticize adhesive formulations. 

Candles – Sonneborn’s Multiwax Microcrystalline Waxes are used extensively in candle formulations, and our broad line of specialty petrolatums are key ingredients in jar candle formulations where aesthetics are key.
